I am Meabh, a Dramatherapist and Clinical Supervisor with over 20 years clinical experience. I work with a wide range of clients and specialise in supporting people who experience difficulties in communication. As a HCPC registered arts therapist I offer dramatherapy. Dramatherapy utilises many drama forms to support clients to explore and express their experiences in the way they feel most comfortable. I help clients to discover their strengths both psychologically, emotionally and communicatively. Once you develop your strengths you might feel more able to express the difficulties you experience in a way that is empowering and enjoyable for you. I work primarily with children, young people and families. My practice focuses on psychological and emotional health, along with managing difficulties associated with communication and relating. My approach is integrative and primarily informed by psychodynamic principals as well as play and drama therapeutic approaches.

Areas of Specialism and Focus

Autism and Learning Difficulties

I have over 20 years of experience working with people on the autism spectrum, both with and without learning difficulties. Dramatherapy can support autistic people with specific difficulties related to mental and physical health or can provide a space to reflect on the challenges some autistic people face with everyday living.

Emotional Problems

I offer dramatherapy to children and young people with emotional difficulties related to loss or sudden change which they struggle with.

Relational Trauma

Dramatherapy can also offer clients support who have experienced adversity in their early life such as loss of a parent, or growing up in care. I support clients to build a healthy sense of self and healthier relationships with others.

My Therapeutic Approach

Psychodynamic Principles

I utilise observational and analytical skills to recognise and support early patterns of relating which may be influencing the client's difficulty in the present.

Play and Drama Therapeutic Approaches

I use communication and exploration with playful and creative forms which invite a sense of flow, building acceptance and enjoyment of expression and opening the client to new experiences.
