Somatic Experiencing
Heal trauma by connecting with your body's sensations. Somatic experiencing helps release stored trauma and restore nervous system regulation.
Trauma-focused EMDR
Process traumatic memories with eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR). A powerful therapy for trauma recovery and healing.
What is trauma?
Trauma is caused by an overwhelming experience or series of events that are so intense or scary that your ability to cope is impacted. When you experience trauma your sense of safety is compromised.
Trauma affects areas of the brain which causes a shift into survival mode. Instead of the brain processing the experience and moving on, the person can become "stuck." This keeps your nervous system in a state of dysregulation long after the danger has passed.
Trauma can often cause a range of physical symptoms and sensations in the body like exhaustion, jumpiness, tight chest, chronic pain and feeling emotionally "numb."
Benefits of a trauma-focused approach
Somatic Experiencing (SE) helps to move your nervous system out of Fight/Flight/Freeze and back into a state of regulation, rest and re-connection. Working with the nervous system to process trauma, can resolve symptoms that have been around for a long time. It has a proven benefit for trauma recovery.
Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EDMR) uses bilateral visual or auditory stimulation to help the brain "reprocess" memories so they are no longer emotionally overwhelming. EMDR can help to decrease fear, panic, or physical distress and help shift from negative thinking and to a more positive and safe outlook on life.
